Formula 1 racing with soon be accessible on the mobile device in your pocket as the Codemasters team has announced F1 Mobile Racing for iOS and Android devices. This officially-licensed free-to-play mobile racer promises to deliver “an addictive, rewarding and thrilling F1 racing experience for players to enjoy on mobile devices.”

Few details were shared about the project, but Codemasters has confirmed that the free-to-player racer is being developed in collaboration with Eden Games – the team behind the Test Drive Unlimited franchise and more recently, Gear.Club for mobile devices and Gear.Club Unlimited on Nintendo Switch.

F1 Mobile Racing will feature all the teams, cars and circuits of the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship – a standard feat for the Codemasters F1 titles. It will also introduce new features to the franchise, including the ability to “develop and customize” your own Formula 1 race car for the very first time. F1 Mobile Racing is also being centered around “an exhilarating, real-time multiplayer experience.”

“We’re delighted to bring an authentic F1 mobile game to the Free to Play audience for the first time,” said Vincent Meulle, Executive Producer at Codemasters. “Formula 1 has a huge global fan-base and this bespoke mobile game will allow us to engage with a far broader audience.”
“F1 Mobile Racing will feature all the teams, cars and circuits of the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship in an exhilarating, real-time multiplayer experience,” he added. “We are excited to bring a host of fresh, new features to the franchise including the ability to develop and customise your own F1 car for the first time.”

F1 Mobile Racing will be released “later this year” on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Codemasters has said additional details will be revealed on the free-to-play title in the future.

The last Formula 1 title to release on iOS and Android devices came in the form of F1 2016 – which was a premium, paid experience. The most recent entry in the series, F1 2017, didn’t make its way onto mobile. Codemasters has since released a mobile version of GRID Autosport for iOS and Android, published by Feral Interactive.

Meanwhile, F1 2018 will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on Friday, August 24th. This one features an expanded Career mode with even more classic cars and the return of “a highly-requested feature.”
