Polish developer CD PROJEKT RED has detailed the futuristic vehicles that’ll light up the streets of its upcoming neon-filled action adventure open-world RPG, Cyberpunk 2077.
Players will get behind-the-wheel of a variety of cars, bikes and other means of transportation when exploring Night City and its outer suburbs. CD PROJEKT RED has teamed up with ARCH Motorcycle to feature their bike in the game, releasing a vehicle featurette with co-founders Keanu Reeves and Gard Hollinger.
The developer also announced the Cyberpunk 2077 Porsche 911 Turbo to be featured in the game. This unique, fully-driveable vehicle is tied to one of the game’s main characters, rebel rockerboy Johnny Silverhand, who is played and portrayed by none other than Keanu Reeves.
The car retains its classic 1977 look, which has been authentically recreated by the concept and vehicle artists at CD PROJEKT RED using sketches, photographs, and photogrammetry. To give it a more “2077” feel, the developers added a lidar to the front, a set of sensors and elements that can identify the vehicle from the air, and even electronic mirrors with monitors inside the vehicle.
“Johnny’s a legend of the Cyberpunk universe. When thinking about what kind of car he’d be driving through the streets of Night City, we knew it would have to be one just as legendary as he is,” said Paweł Mielniczuk, Art Director of Characters, Weapons and Vehicles, CD PROJEKT RED. “Having Johnny’s story in mind, and being huge fans of Porsche ourselves, the answer could only be the classic 911 Turbo.”
CD PROJEKT RED has also arranged the Cyberpunk 2077 Porsche 911 Turbo to be brought to life with a fully operational rendition of the vehicle constructed and displayed outside of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany from October 15th to October 22nd.
The developer also revealed a behind-the-scenes video titled Revving Up Night City that shows how the team recorded audio for the vehicles to bring them to life.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases on November 19, 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Stadia. It’ll also be playable on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 from launch, but it will not be optimized to take advantage of the extra horsepower of those consoles until a later date. Once available, the enhanced version of Cyberpunk 2077 will be a free upgrade for those who own the original.
