Codemasters has announced DIRT 5 as its first game for next-generation console platforms, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Announced earlier today on Microsoft’s Inside Xbox livestream, DIRT 5 will also come to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and on the PC via Steam in October 2020, followed by a Google Stadia version in early 2021.

DIRT 5 has been designed to amplify the heart-pounding off-road driving experience, set against a sensory backdrop of vibrant visuals, an eclectic soundtrack, and dynamic weather conditions. From the frozen East River in New York and the favelas of Rio de Janeiro to the marble mines of Italy and thrilling remote areas in Greece, Norway and China.

In total, DIRT 5 incorporates 70 routes that span the entire globe. Plus, for the first time in the franchise, seasons augment the rally experience even further to add new layers of nuance to each race. With eight different race types covering ravel, snow, mud, ice and more in between, all from the comfort of buggies, trucks, and rock bounders to both traditional and modern-day rally cars. In the reveal trailer, you’ll notice the likes of the Ariel Nomad, an extreme off-road machine to rally icons such as the Lancia Stratos and the modern-day Citroen C3 R5.

Codemasters has also crafted an “expansive narrative-driven” Career mode that features various event types and challenges across some of the world’s toughest terrain. DIRT 5 also utilizes a non-linear progression path, so players can race in the events they choose without any barricades.

Guiding players through the experience will be an iconic duo in gaming voice talent – the legends that are Nolan North and Troy Baker. Together, they will mentor players through the Career mode and even feature in the DIRT in-game podcast series, which will also add voice talents of other celebrities from gaming and automotive culture, such as Donut Media.

“As a studio, we are big fans of DIRT 2 and 3. This game is our homage: a bigger, amplified DIRT off-road experience in a setting that is alive, challenging and fun,” said Robert Karp, DIRT 5 Development Director at Codemasters. “Whether you want to compete against the AI on some of the world’s most challenging environments or play a four-player split-screen game with your friends, DIRT 5 has you covered.”

Players can also get creative in DIRT 5 using the livery editor and take their rally machines to the next level with more customization options than any previous entry. Use Photo Mode to capture your greatest moments. Snap and share every jump, scrape and slide you make. Be it heroic, humorous or unexpected. Split-screen support for up to four players also makes a return and can be played across all offline modes, including the Career.

DIRT 5 also features 12-player multiplayer action with playful objective-based modes. Codemasters plans to unveil the full list of new gamemodes leading up to the game’s release. One of those teased has a focus on creativity and is designed with both online and couch play in-mind, and it’s totally new – “something you have never seen before from the DIRT franchise,” as Codemasters says.

DIRT 5 is being built for next-generation consoles in-mind with heightened graphical fidelity, optimised performance, and unparalleled load-times for non-stop action. On Xbox Series X, the game runs at 4K resolution and 120FPS. With Xbox Smart Delivery, those who purchase the Xbox One version of DIRT 5 will receive the best version of the game for their system. That includes enhancements and optimizations specific for Xbox One X and Xbox Series X – all at no extra cost.
