Playground Games will release its Series 4 Update for Forza Horizon 4 on Thursday, December 13th, the developer has announced on its official Forza Support website. Not only will this release include support for the Fortune Island expansion launching on the same day, but it will also introduce improvements to the Photo Mode and Horizon Life experiences.

In terms of Photo Mode, the developer has introduced more freedom with how players can move and pan the camera around. They’ve also added new bokeh depth-of-field effects, as well as the ability to toggle headlights, drivers, wildlife and crowd characters – allowing you to truly personalize and customize your image to your liking.

Meanwhile, the shared Horizon Life online mode now features an improved and more streamlined event sign-up experience when creating multiplayer sessions. When you create an event, you can post it to the in-game Activity Panel and return to Freeroam whilst you wait for players to sign-up and join. Playground Games has removed the previous 40-second limit used before, and now you have the option to wait for as long as you desire for like-minded players to join before starting the session.

In addition, the Series 4 Update also introduces 'Horizon Holiday Party' content that will be made available to unlock via seasonal events, the Forzathon Shop and wheelspins. These include new festival outfits like the Santa Suit, as well as Christmas-themed sweaters, shoes and hats. Playground has even added deer antlers! In total, there will be 16 new Seasonal Championships to complete in Series 4, including four new Trial events and 12 built specifically for Fortune Island. Players will also get the opportunity to acquire four new exclusive cars, including the beloved Mosler MT900S, the Hudson Hornet, and Ken Block's Hoonigan RS200, whilst Forza Horizon 4 Car Pass holders can look forward to driving eight brand-new rides across beautiful, historic Britain and Fortune Island.

The above graphic for the Series 4 Update also reveals that Fortune Island will feature 32 unique race events with 25 new PR Stunts to beat, including the all-new Trailblazer Gates that challenge players to find the quickest route between two designated points. There’s also a new Horizon Story in Drift Club 2.0 that sees the return of everyone’s favourite Welshman Robert Glenn, as well as a brand-new Treasure Hunt experience that will see players solving riddles and hunting down chests to find millions of credits and unique, rare cars.

Other improvements improvements in the Series 4 Update for Forza Horizon 4 include the addition of emotes in the Forzathon Shop, which will be occasionally found for purchase. Playground has also improved the visibility of the driving line on the mini-map in various colour-blind modes. Seasonal Event names are now shown on the map to make them easier to find, whilst a fix applied to the Route Creator now make it possible for players to view the map whilst using manual gears. An exploit that saw players creating routes to easily gain a large number of Skill Points has also been fixed.

For an early look at the new update, be sure to tune in to the official Series 4 livestream direct from Playground Games in Leamington Spa, UK on the official Forza Mixer and Twitch channels at 10am Pacific (1pm EST, 6pm GMT) on Wednesday, December 12th. The developer will also host another livestream on Thursday, December 13th at 7am Pacific (10am EST, 3pm GMT) that features a deep dive into the Fortune Island expansion and a guided tour of the new location.

Fortune Island is the first major post-release expansion for Forza Horizon 4 and is designed to be the most thrilling and dangerous location yet of the Horizon Festival with perilous cliffside roads, extreme terrain and the longest paved mountain switchback road in the history of the series. This is accompanied by moody, atmospheric storms with driving wind, lightning strikes, and even the beauty of the Aurora Borealis. All whilst you race for victory in the Island Conquer and attempt to solve riddles in the hunt for hidden treasure. Fortune Island also features 10 new cars to add to your collection of automobiles, as well as 24 new Xbox Live Achievements to unlock. It’s included at no additional cost to Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition and Expansion Pass holders, but it can be acquired for $19.99 – with Xbox Game Pass members receiving a 10% discount on top.
