Need for Speed will revitalize the street racer against police fantasy at the core of the franchise when it returns to PC and consoles later this year, revealed Andrew Wilson, EA’s CEO, on the company’s latest earnings call with investors for the FY19 Q4 financial quarter.
EA is also expected to sell around 4 million units of the next installment into the Need for Speed franchise, which is slated to release between October to December this year.
“Need for Speed returns to consoles and PC this year, revitalizing the street racer vs. cops fantasy at the core of the franchise,” the EA boss told investors. “We expect to sell around 4 million units, in line with past performance of the franchise.”
Whilst no specific details were shared about the title, EA is expected to officially reveal the new Need for Speed game before its EA PLAY event in Los Angeles, CA this June. Whilst the publisher won’t be hosting a traditional press conference this year, it's opting to instead broadcast several gameplay-focused livestreams to showcase its upcoming titles.
EA announced earlier this week that it would be bringing its EA Access subscription service to PlayStation 4 this Summer. The service allows unlimited access to all of EA titles available in The Vault, as well as free 10-hour trials to new titles ahead of their release. EA Access has already been available on Xbox One, and as Origin Access on PC.
