Square Enix has announced Shadow of the Tomb Raider for Xbox
One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The defining moment of Lara Croft’s origin story
will finally be revealed when the game launches on September 14th worldwide.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third game and climactic
finale in heroine Lara Croft’s origin trilogy, which began in 2013 with Tomb Raider
and continued in 2015 with Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Square Enix also revealed that Shadow of the Tomb Raider
will launch on all platforms “simultaneously,” so don’t expect an Xbox exclusivity
period as we saw with Rise of the Tomb Raider when it launched in November 2015
for Xbox One and Xbox 360 before following on PC in January 2016 and PS4 in
October 2016. Fans who wish to check out Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One
can find it available on Xbox
In a press release shared by Square Enix, the publisher
confirmed it will be available on Xbox One X with enhancements. If it’s anything like Rise of the Tomb Raider, fans
can look forward to 4K Ultra HD and HDR support with enhanced graphical details
as well as a 60fps mode.
You can find the official cinematic teaser trailer for Shadow
of the Tomb Raider below, which features a heavy theme of eclipses and darkness
with a tease of the action we can come to expect in Lara Croft’s next unmissable
adventure. It also shows off what looks to be an Aztec-inspired jungle setting
as Lara faces off once more against the malicious Trinity organization.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is being developed by Edios
Montreal as the lead studio with Crystal Dynamics assisting on the project. The
Tomb Raider reboot series of games have been handled by Crystal Dynamics
entirely so far, but with the team currently focused on The Avengers in partnership
with Marvel, another studio had to take the lead for Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Fans can expect to see the official unveiling of Shadow of
the Tomb Raider on April 27th, 2018. Those who wish to have a chance to play
the game early and meet the developers at one of three exclusive reveal events can
visit the official Tomb Raider
website to learn more details. A puzzle will be shared on the website on
Monday at 9am PDT (12pm EST, 4pm GMT), and you can also sign-up for the
official newsletter there as well.
