The fifth episode of the Budget
Supercar Challenge on Forza Motorsport 7 has arrived, and this week, our host and resident car aficionado Tom
Matthews will be putting the 2003 Renault Sport Clio V6 to the test on the Top Gear Test Track in Dunsfold, England in an attempt to make it faster than the 2011 McLaren 12C and set a better lap-time than the acclaimed British supercar.
The new contender for the challenge was once again recommend by a viewer in the comments of the last video, which saw the 2018 Honda
Odyssey minivan almost set a faster time than the McLaren 12C. Unfortunately, it just about missed the target. Currently, the only car to have defeated the British supercar is the 2004
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR, which set a record time of 01:12.868 – almost a second faster than the McLaren.
After three laps of the Top Gear Test Track in what’s essentially a dreary and dull day with that grey skybox, the Renault Clio V6 set a respectable time of 01:26.914. With a total budget of 100,000 Credits and 55,000 Credits already spent on the car itself, Tom has 45,000 Credits to spend on upgrades and tuning. It’s rear-while-drive – like the 1994 Mazda MX-5, but it also features a mid-engine design. This means he doesn’t need to swap the drivetrain out.
All cars that have featured in the Budget Supercar Challenge have been upgraded to S Class, however the Renault Clio V6 is just shy of that milestone at A690 after spending a total of 99,750 Credits from the budget. The engine has been left stock, but upgraded to the best it can be, whilst a Forza Aero kit has been applied with better tires. This is a car that has been built and upgraded with handling in mind. It’s light, sporty and agile, which should go down in its favour.
As Tom heads back to the Top Gear Test Track for 6 laps with the upgraded Renault Clio V6, the dull and dreary appearance of Dunsfold has been replaced by a bright, sunny day with plenty of white fluffy clouds filling up the sky. The time set by the 2011 McLaren 12C as the overall benchmark for this series is 01:13.750, which remains intact for this week’s episode. This is the time that the Renault Clio V6 will need to outperform.
As usual, the video integrates both the cockpit camera view and the replay angles in Forza Motorsport 7 – adding to both the difficulty and immersion of the challenge, whilst offering viewers a cinematic look at the action on-track as the upgraded Renault Clio V6 attempts to beat the time of a McLaren 12C. We won’t be revealing the result of his efforts in this article, so to see how well the Renault Sport Clio V6 does and whether Tom manages to outperform the British supercar in it, be sure to check out the above episode for yourself.
