Microsoft has shared the official commercial for Forza Horizon 4, its upcoming open-world racing game launching on October 2nd, 2018. The trailer primarily focuses on the beautiful landscapes and diversity of Great Britain, providing a David Attenborough-style narration that’s reminiscent of his Planet Earth documentary series on the BBC (via Windows Central). The elderly narrator is lovely though and he most certainly brings some humour and excitement to the accompanying gameplay footage.
Despite Forza Horizon 4 featuring its fair-share of wildlife, which are well highlighted in the trailer, the focus is on the cars and the unique features of the game. This, however causes some confusion for the narrator in the most amusing fashion – who attempts to complete his voiceover for the video in one take. The overall premise of the video is to highlight how seasons change everything in Forza Horizon 4, offering a dazzling outlook on the landscape whilst showcasing deer, rabbits and sheep, as well as gorgeous British environments and fast cars.
However, it isn’t long until the narrator becomes distracted by some beautiful, magnificent Spring blossoms being destroyed by a Subaru rally car, as well as the vast hovercraft used in one of Forza Horizon 4’s brilliant Showcase events. He’s a little confused by the presence of the latter to say the least, but it isn’t long until the narrator speaks about a Jaguar F-Type stalking its prey before hunting it down. A Jaguar, hunting animals. Get it? The narrator even adds to the immersion of the video by recreating the sounds of wild animals, or shall we say cars, in combat – referring to the Jaguar as “a big cat.”
As the video shifts its focus to Summer – highlighting a variety of supercars on a Great British beach, the narrator refers to the Hoonigans as “hooligans” before asking the director what kind of language they speak of in the script. Soon after, Winter falls upon beautiful Britain – offering a look at the Mercedes-Benz Unimog truck with other purpose-built off-roaders trailing across an ice lake in what the narrator refers to as “a true multiplier.” He means multiplayer, obviously.
The amusing commercial wraps up with an epic conclusion as trucks drive off a mountain ridge, followed by a montage of incredible scenes from the Forza Horizon 4 reveal trailer. It’s overall a fantastic advertisement for the new open-world racer from Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios, and it does a wonderful job of highlighting the different seasons, landscapes and environments of the game. It looks beautiful and some of the scenes are just truly dazzling. Not to mention the hilarity created by the narrator reading his script, as well as the director, who must often interrupt or prompt the storyteller, so he can repeat a line and say it somewhat properly.
I highly recommend watching the trailer for yourself above, so you can laugh along with it and be delighted by its wonderful humour and scenes of beautiful, historic Britain. Forza Horizon 4 will be available on October 2nd, 2018 for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, as well as the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. It features more than 450 Forzavista cars with Dynamic Seasons, as you probably gathered from the video, as well as all-new player-purchasable houses and businesses. Unfortunately, the narrator is not included in the package, but we do certainly wish he was.
