Rockstar Games has released the third official cinematic trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, delivering story-driven action with plenty of awe-inspiring visual moments.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set in America, 1899, where the end of the Wild West era is approaching as lawmen have begun to hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed.

One of the many awe-inspiring moments of the trailers depicts a living village full of realistic characters models, horse and carts, and several differently-styled buildings.

After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, showcased in the new trailer, our protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive.

The trailer also depicts a younger John Marston, fresh from receiving his trademark scars, and clearly in trouble from what looks to be a rival gang. Marston’s appearance in Red Dead Redemption 2 was always extremely likely given his connection to the Van der Linde gang – and now it’s confirmed that he’ll be showing up, and likely in a big way too.

Watch the new trailer above for a glimpse of the story being crafted in Red Dead Redemption 2.

In Red Dead Redemption, Marston was pressured into tracking down members of the gang he was once part of, but in Red Dead Redemption 2 – which is set before the events of the original game, you’ll be playing as Dutch Van der Linde’s right-hand man, Arthur Morgan.

As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, however, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him. Other characters spotted in the trailer returning from Red Dead Redemption include Uncle and Edgar Ross.

‍Rockstar Games has also revealed the official box art for Red Dead Redemption 2.
