Last month, we had hands-on with a near-complete version of The Crew 2 at a private press event at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey, UK. In addition to our
in-depth preview story that takes a detailed look at the open-world racing game, we also had the opportunity to capture some exclusive gameplay from the Xbox One X version of The Crew 2 to share with you all.
In this video, we’re looking at the introductory race event of The Crew 2. This one introduces you to the ‘Live Xtreme Series’ – which will lead to your overall fame and success as you become popular in the motorsports scene. This special introduction opens with the 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, as you race your way through a wet-surfaced New York City. Two things will be immediately noticeable when you play for it yourself – the vastly improved handling model and the far more visually-pleasing 4K resolution graphics that make The Crew 2 a showpiece on the Xbox One X.
However, it isn’t long until it all goes to the extreme as Brooklyn Bridge folds down into the sea as the city behind you lifts up, literally, before you’re switched into one of The Crew 2’s other vehicle classes – boats. You’ll be racing a powerboat on the coast of Manhattan as you see the city return to its original form after its slightly unusual transformation. It’s something we didn’t expect to see at all, but it showcases the overall wackiness of stunt racing in The Crew 2.
After another dramatic transformation, you’ll end up flying through the city skyscrapers of Manhattan and the scenic heart of Central Park in one of the game’s all-new stunt-made aircraft as you hit the checkpoints placed ahead of you. Take it as a sample of the overall vastness of events and gameplay scenarios offered by The Crew 2 as you compete to become the ultimate motorsports legend the United States of America has to offer.
One of the neat aspects of racing events in The Crew 2 is the variety and uniqueness to them. Stunts are often added to the course, whilst multiple routes can also be discovered. How you drive and compete is up to you. Whether it’s on tarmac in street cars or through forests and mountains on off-road motorbikes, in the sea racing the fastest powerboats, or way up in the skies freestyling in the stunt planes of your dreams, the game offers you a near limitless selection of things to do – almost like a breakfast buffet.
